Here is a breakdown of my expenses for January.
Household | $406.98 |
Transportation | $10.95 |
Food | $37.23 |
Entertainment | $74.46 |
Debt/Education | $173.06 |
Phone | $34.27 |
Medical/Dental | $69.71 |
Total | $806.66 |
I’m happy with this total. It puts me on track to have my expenses below $10,000 for the year. This month’s total should be about the same. I’ll probably spend a little more in the household and entertainment categories and less in the education category.
How do you manage to only spend $37 on food? I’m trying to get ours under $500.
We need an update on riding the bus. Is it working out now?
Do you think that you would be able to live permanently below $10,000 a year?
If you can you may actually be able to completely support yourself blogging(in the near future)and that would be amazing!!!!
I would also love to know how you spent only $37 last month for food? Your girlfriend must contribute at least half to that part of the budget, but $74 is still an extremely low amount for one month for two people.
Passive Dad and Diana- I get this question almost every month. I suppose I should always have an explanation in the post. I pay my girlfriend a set amount each month towards our household expenses and that includes groceries. The food total is only for lunches I buy myself or any snacks or groceries I buy. Restaurant food that I buy as part of a date I include in the entertainment category.
When I lived on my own I usually spent about $100 a month on food including meals out.
SonyaAnn- The bus is still working out well. I have to admit that if I wasn’t able to occasionally borrow my GF’s car or get a ride from her that going without a car would be a much bigger hassle. I can foresee myself living on $10,000 a year indefinitely accounting for inflation. Once I start making more money though I might change my mind and start spending more money. I do have a goal of my blogging income being enough to cover all my expenses although I don’t plan on blogging being my only source of income.
