eBay has announced that for products in their eBay Deals category they now have a price match guarantee. eBay now guarantees that an eligible deal will be the best price online, or they will match the lower price of a competitor (i.e. Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, Jet.com, HomeDepot.com, Sears.com, Target.com, Walmart.com or Wayfair.com.)
All that’s necessary for the Price Match Guarantee to be met is that both items have to be the same and also must be currently in stock. No membership or fees are necessary – deals are open to everyone and always ship for free.
The price match needs to be requested before purchasing the product. Once the lower price is verified, eBay will offer a coupon for the difference in price that can be used towards the purchase of the item.
This guarantee will be of limited benefit to me. Needing to request the price match before purchasing the product will be inconvenient and it could be a waste of time if the product sells out before eBay responds to your price match request. The bigger issue is that the guarantee is only for certain items in their eBay Deals category. It won’t apply to the large majority of items for sale on eBay. Although the guarantee is of limited use, it is something to keep in mind when making a purchase at eBay.
