Personal Finance Links – New Job Edition

by Andy Hough on October 7, 2012

This week I finally managed to land a job as an attorney. I interviewed on Monday and started on Tuesday. I’m working for a solo attorney in a small town in southwest Missouri. The job is somewhat like a paid internship. The pay isn’t great, but the experience will be valuable.

The next couple of weeks are going to be crazy. I will still be working my weekend job for a while longer since I wanted to give them proper notice and I didn’t think it would be fair to leave so soon after they trained me. Luckily, my new employer is flexible enough to allow me to still work weekends.

Unfortunately, my van living will be coming to and end. The town I will be working in is way too small to be able to keep my van living secret and I don’t think my employer would approve. Also, since I will be commuting between KC and southwest Missouri for the next few weeks a more economical vehicle would be a better choice. In the next couple of weeks I’ll be looking for a new vehicle and an apartment. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

Thanks for the Mention and Congrats on the Job!

Too bad there is not a national forest a little out of town you could “hide out” on! But yeah small towns means folks know what you are doing before you do! LOL From what I can see though , Missouri is fairly cheap in rent from many other areas???? That would be a bonus :)

It should not be a problem to find a cheap place to rent. Rent is pretty cheap in Missouri and it is even cheaper in this small town.

Yes, it will be nice to keep the sleeping job even though it will mean a lot of driving.

Congrats! I’m excited for you! What kind of car are you thinking of?

I’ve had good luck with Toyotas so that will be my first choice. I have relatives with a used car lot that I usually buy my cars from. What I end up buying depends on what they have available.

The next few weeks will be busy. Since I’m used to having lots of free time this will be an adjustment.

Congrats on getting the job Andy! So glad to hear that something has finally come through for you. Making the drive from KC each weekend won’t be ideal but hopefully it’s just for a few weeks!

I don’t really mind the drive, it is paying for the gas that will be a pain.

Thanks. I was sorry to hear that the casino you were working at closed. Hope you find something else soon.

Yes, that part of my career is over. Now I will go back to playing full time as a player. I wish my bankroll hadn’t taken a hit with house and car repairs. Bad timing.
