Skipping FinCon

I have been looking forward to the Financial Bloggers Conference ever since attending last years’ conference, but I have decided not to attend. Given my current financial situation, the conference is a luxury that I can’t afford. Between the conference ticket, gas, parking, and a possible hotel room the conference would cost several hundred dollars. There would be some irony in going into credit card debt to attend a financial blogger’s conference. I’d like to have my van paid off and some money saved by the end of the year and attending the conference would be a serious setback to those goals.

I could just get a refund of my FinCon ticket, but I’d like to let somebody else use it. If you are interested in buying my FinCon ticket, leave a comment or email me. I’m selling the ticket for the price I paid for it, $111.75, which is a good discount to the current price of $149. It looks like the transfer process should be pretty easy.

For all of those who are attending FinCon, I hope you have a good time and I’ll see you next year.

    • I was looking forward to spending time with my blogging friends. Since I didn’t get to meet with people as much as I would have like last year. There is always next year.

If you know anyone that still needs a ticket, send them over. If nobody buys the ticket in the next couple of days I’ll just get a refund.

  1. Sorry to hear you won’t be able to make it. But I can definitely relate to your decision. While I was trying to get out of debt I too had to sacrifice quite a few luxuries and make the tough choices. Your discipline will pay off in the end! You’re awesome for offering your ticket to someone else – that’s some good karma coming your way 🙂

  2. Overall, I think that’s a pretty wise decision Andy! Just a random though…if you’re looking for some money they are always hiring at the UPS packing center in Lenexa/Overland Park, KS. They have a morning shift from 4:00-7:00, M-F. It wouldn’t be a lot of money but it would be something you can add to a full-time job and really rake in the dough.

    • I actually applied there when I was in law school, but never heard back from them. If I end up getting a part time job, and right now that looks likely since no full time jobs are happening, I will try to get my old pizza delivery job back.

      • Have you considered the Financial Services route or other non-traditional legal jobs? It is hard for me to understand an admitted attorney delivering pizza

        • I will still be looking for a legal or non-traditional legal job, but I haven’t had much luck yet. The pizza job is just so I’ll be making something while I’m looking. I doubt I’d be the only attorney delivering pizza.

  3. I understand Andy! I wasn’t going either because of our financial situation. Thankfully, I was able to get sponsored by some of my Yakezie friends in exchange for some writing. Wish you were going! See you next year?
