My New Blog: My Retirement Blog

by Andy Hough on December 29, 2009

I am happy to announce that I am now the owner of MyRetirementBlog.com which I purchased from Jim of Bargaineering.com.  This is my first purchase of an existing website but the transition has gone very well.

Buying MyRetirementBlog.com is part of my strategy to increase my online and passive income.  It does require some updating but since it is mostly search engine traffic I don’t need to post as often as I do here to maintain readership.  It is too soon to accurately project my earnings from the new site but I am estimating that I should be able to recoup the purchase price in about two years.   With a little work I might be able to improve the earnings and shorten the payback time even further.  The site makes all of its revenue from Adsense right now and I plan to add some additional revenue sources.

Maybe I would have been better off developing a site on my own from scratch but I doubt it.  It would have taken quite a while and a lot of work to get the current level of search engine traffic.  I think the site is well worth the money I spent.

Does any of you have experience with buying an existing website?

Jeanine p – You can probably find some of the stats but I don’t really want to share all of them. No need to encourage competition.
