I received a pleasant surprise from the IRS today. Apparently I made a mistake on my tax return and overpaid. They sent me a refund check for $182. I had paid them $141 back in February so most of the check is getting my own money back. Since I had considered that money gone though I consider all of the check a windfall.
I’m not sure how I made that big of a mistake on my taxes. I don’t think my tax forms are very hard to fill out but I guess they were more complicated than I thought. They said I made a mistake in figuring the amount of my Earned Income Credit. I’m just going to take their word for it.
I’ve been planning on buying a new cell phone to take with me on my hike. This money should cover that and leave me a little extra.
