The past few months I wrote a blog over at Today.com. I did this through their VIP Blogger program. At the time it paid you $1 a post and $2 for every thousand impressions. This isn’t great money but a guaranteed $1 per post is decent. You were restricted to one post per day though. If they had kept their program at this rate I would have recommended it as a way to earn alternative income.
They have changed the way their program works however and new bloggers will only receive the $2 per thousand impressions and after 30 days may become eligible to be paid for posting. I easily make more than $2 per thousand impressions on my other blogs so there is no incentive for me to post there now. Today.com doesn’t allow you to place any affiliate links or ads on your blog or even to link to a post that has affiliate links. This severely limits your potential to earn money from your blog and most bloggers would be better off blogging on their own. An exception would be if you were publishing a blog purely for personal reasons with no expectations of making money. I’m realizing I was a bit shortsighted putting all my blogging efforts into my Today.com blog.
The guaranteed daily payout was enticing …
But blogging is a lot of work -
And blogging for them is seriously limiting!
I’m not so sure about them?
They are good for getting started but they limit how much your blog can grow. I think you are better off having your own domain from the start.
Will you continue to write at Today or focus more time on your blog here? I’m tempted to start something at Today, but don’t want to get side tracked from my blog.
I might put an occasional post on Today just to keep my blog active but I think concentrating on my own blog will produce better results.
