Midgrade Gas is the Same as Regular?

Here is yet another example that you don’t always get what you pay for. According to this Kansas City Star article regular gasoline in Missouri now has the same octane as midgrade gasoline. Many gas stations are still charging more for the midgrade gasoline even though it is essentially the same as regular. A few stations charge the same for midgrade as regular but most just take the extra profit.  This means a lot of customers have been unnecessarily paying extra for midgrade gas. The use of E-10 has boosted the octane of regular gasoline so that it is the same as midgrade. The use of E-10 is increasing and it is likely that people in other states are overpaying for midgrade gasoline as well.
