Awh, that stinks!

I'm going to suggest that if you look for another one, and can't find it free, that you can often find very low-priced bikes if you live near a college campus. There are often auctions in the spring to sell off the random bikes that are abandoned there each year. You can get very nice bikes for less than $10, and the money often benefits a charity.

I'm sorry to hear about the bike - i've had a similar situation where a bike was actually stolen from my parents house when i was living there. Someone was bold enough to actually go in the side door, down the basement stairs and steal my $600 bike from the basement. I never saw it again. Oh well, what are you going to do.

I'm so sorry to hear about your bike, that bites. With the changing weather I am about to start riding my bike to work, and your story leads me to think that I will be keeping it inside the lab! My brother (an avid cyclist) had his expensive bike stolen from his apartment, but fortunately the renter's insurance covered his loss.
