“Into the Wild”

by Andy Hough on October 8, 2007

I saw this movie this weekend and loved it.  This wasn’t much of a surprise since I loved the book and had been waiting for the movie to make it to KC.  I even paid full price to see it since the movie is only showing on two screens in the area.  The movie definitely benefits from being seen on the large screen since it has lots of beautiful scenery.

The movie is based on a true story of a young man who decided to ditch society and seek out new experiences. The idea is very appealing to me.  I wish I had the courage to do as he did.  Of course it could also be considered to be somewhat foolish to do as he did.  And the experience didn’t actually end well for him.  But he lived his life the way he wanted to and that counts for a lot.

Right now my number one priority is finishing law school.  After that I may try and have a similar adventure but not to the same extreme.  This is the experience I was trying to have on my attempted AT thru-hikes but I was never able to leave society behind.  Maybe next time I’ll do better.
